Long Blue White Heart and Tuareg Amulet Necklace
This long necklace features unique blue Whiteheart beads, originally from Venice, Italy and a Tuareg brass and silver box amulet. An old Mediterranean coral, a faceted silver bead from Yemen, granulated bead and rod from the Yoruba tribe from Nigeria are worked in asymmetrically as accent beads.
The sky blue glass beads have a matte patina, and a layer of white glass on the inside, hence their name. The legendary Venetian White Heart beads were made in Italy from the late 1600s and traded mostly to Africa and North America by the Hudson Bay Company. They were collected by countless tribal people.
The Tuareg, a semi-nomadic Berber people, live mostly in the middle and western Sahara region, such as Algeria, Niger, Morocco and Tunesia, but also in Libya and Nigeria. They are extraordinary goldsmiths, traditionally working in silver, brass and copper metals. They make beautiful and bold jewelry, mostly in geometric shapes and symmetrical designs. Designs and shapes are passed down from generation to generation, family to family.
