Heishi Turquoise Necklace with Indian Amulet
This one of a kind turquoise necklace features the classic combination of turquoise and coral with an old amulet pendant from Rajasthan, India in the center. Turquoise Hishi disc beads from Arizona and old Mediterranean corals frame the old, silver box amulet, originally meant to hold small talismanic or protective verses or anything else deemed to protect. The silver’s smooth, worn surface give this amulet a beautiful patina and feel. The s-hook clasp can be bent to open and close and is made of sterling silver.
The literal meaning of heishi is "shell". These organic shell beads, cut in the form of small or larger discs originally came from the Kewa Pueblo people from New Mexico. Heishi also refers to the disc cut and shape of a variety of gem stones, including turquoise.
