This unique strand of old Venetian glass beads in a translucent shade of aqua blue is paired with an old Morrocan silver coin pendant, an old Mediterranean coral and a beautiful handworked Karen silver rod bead with handhammered flower motif.

Silver coins were sought after additions to jewelry or clothing in many tribal communities, symbolizing wealth and status of the wearer, but also garding him or her against the evil eye, due to the reflective nature of the metal. Silver coins were often melted down and recycled to make new tribal jewelry, such as the famous Maria Theresia Thaler that circulated in the 1800s.

Old glass beads were also popular items of trade and commerce beginning in the middle of the 18th century. Many Venetian glass beads were prized for their quality and craftsmanship, their beautiful colors and intricate patterns, but also for their translucency and glow.

The translucency of these particular aqua toned Venetian glass beads, their old, worn patina, and smooth surface, make this necklace a unique beauty.
