This long braided chord necklace is made from a striking black banded Botswana Agate. The drop-shaped pendant is banded in expressive white, black and brown layers, and combined with an old ebony and silver inlay bead from Mauritania and a faceted silver bead from Yemen. The stone's soft and smooth surface resembles that of a soft river pebble, feeling soft to the touch.

As its name indicates, Botswana agate comes from Botswana, from the Southern part of Africa. Botswana Agate is a variety of chalcedony, which is part of the Quartz mineral family. Volcanic activity dating back to nearly 200 million years ago, with waves of various lava flows rich in Silica and Quartz, created the stunning banding of color and pattern of these agates. These inherent properties make each piece of Botswana agate a unique piece.

Ebony beads were favored beads among the Tuareg, a Berber tribe from Mali and Mauritania. The intricately wound silver wire inlayed into the hand carved ebony wood reflects the fine craftsmanship of the Tuareg goldsmiths. Traditionally, ebony beads were worn by Tuareg men for special occasions. The necklace is adjustable in length. Just pull along the knots to adjust the length.
